As Bose can teach business AV how to sell more systems to more profit-Home Theater review

Bose_store.gifHow an audiophile and professional AV, I'm not really a fan of speakers Bose, nor I have ever been in my career of consumer electronics for 20 years. With its massive market share and Engineering Department, well funded, I don't understand why they voice their speakers the way they do-but even his detractors more enthusiasts have to admit that Dr. Bose and his team really know how to sell speakers. I have always said that the most impressive element of Bose is its ability to market on almost all channels-so I'm a fan of business marketing.

See how other AV companies now are rushing to get in big box stores, warehouse stores, stores Apple and online retailers. Bose is already there and already dominant. And Bose have a dozen other channels they skimmed millions of dollars in sales per year, including newspaper ads, print door-to-door, TV infomercials and beyond. They may be the single best multichannel marketing company in the American economy – not just the consumer electronics business.

There is a new place that Bose is leading the way, which is like a finely tuned audio and video retailer. A lot of ink goes to Apple for their massively profitable Apple stores and uber-cool but Bose quietly makes that Costco, target, Wal-mart, Best Buy and unfortunately, many brick and mortar shops specialty AV cannot do-Bose makes a hell of a demonstration of audio-video in the store. Walk into any Mall or local output with a Bose store and simply walk to the store near the home theater demo. Won't take 30 seconds until a well-trained salesman will invite you in and show him your best demo.

The demo is to-the-point, dynamic and well designed. It highlights the strength of its products and drive systems, leaving the weaknesses away from his conscience. More importantly, anyone with a pulse Gets the show if they don't go near the theatre. Even if a consumer couldn't buy a interconnections in the system-start demo so they can tell their friends that Bose is best. And who can blame them for spreading the good news, after being treated so well at the store Bose? More than a manufacturing Executive AV high-level has experienced this level of experience in sales and was left the same way that I was FASCINATED by the ability to sell the value of production of the demo and I-care-to-make-a-sale enthusiasm that you can't in big box stores.

Realistically, I don't think you can expect to get this level of experience in sales and demonstration of AV in Costco like they don't really "sell" anything-they just allow consumers marries discount items that are pre-sold by online publications (like this one and many others) TV, magazines, and other establishments including other retailers. Ironically, if you were a consumer simply buy in price, there is best HDTVs sold on the Internet than Costco, Wal-mart and Target. However the convenience of simply dragging home a new set have some appeal to some consumers. For about 10%, there is probably more a local store that can deliver and setup of HDTV for you in your home, can offer a better guarantee, and possibly a better demo. Ask them what they can do for you on well-known players and would not be surprised to see them offer a good package to win your business. Many specialty shops in California are offering to recycle old CRTs and other sets for consumers who buy a new set. Others offer ISF video calibration for HDTV sets in little or no additional cost. Depending on your needs-it is good to be treated as a customer purchases locally and looking for performance and value.

Apple vs Microsoft: two views on uncertainty-ZDNet (blog)

Security analysts and Windows managers often point a finger at Apple's long-standing place on top of OS vendor Secunia vulnerabilities list. That chart can, however, only part of the uncertainty image assign.

Neil MacDonald, vice president at Gartner Research recently wrote a research note on or anti virus software on Mac OS X and Linux desktops is necessary. (The answer is Yes.)

In a recent blog post says MacDonald that in a number of reports, such as Secunia vulnerability of 2010 rankings, Apple in at number 1, and Microsoft, number 3. This looks very bad for Apple.

However, he says that while the number of vulnerabilities is an important measure, the severity of the vulnerabilities is also important. Comparing the "critical and high-vulnerability disclosure" in IBM's X-Force 2010 mid year Trend and risk report, Apple seems to have the safety improved in the past 5 years, while Windows has gone from 20 percent to 75 percent.

With Microsoft's Secure Development Lifecycle in place and continue to be refined over the past 7 years, why the OS software produced by Microsoft a significantly larger percentage of vulnerabilities rated critical or contains high while other OSs fall?

MacDonald offers some important analysis on the subject. Take a look-see.

So the story is not just about some abstract vulnerability but on how bad it all really is. And anyone who has both Macs and PCs used the real-world difference understands.

For example, works on my Mac, I got infected with malware twice: once in the late 1980s before the malware word was invented, and another time with a macro virus Windows in the 1990s. This is not a declaration of the vulnerability or General invulnerability of Mac OS. Instead, it's just how it has been.

Meanwhile, Apple seems to be making a greater effort to security in Mac OS X Lion. The recently invited security researcher within the fold — something that has never happened before.

Some researchers have high hopes about improvements in Leo.

Charlie Miller, author of the Mac Hackers Handbook and principal security analyst at independent security evaluators was interviewed on Infosec island after his recent victory at Pwn2Own this month. He pointed out that with the release of iOS 4.3, the iPhone now ALSR (address space layout randomization) and data execution prevention (DEP) security. Of course, here's Apple Microsoft, that the arrangements in Windows Phone 7 supports.

Windows has since full ASLR in Windows Vista, he reminded us.

Q: this leads you to believe that the Mac OS X Lion also full ASLR perhaps when released?

A: I sure hope so.  If it has full ASLR, it will be a vast improvement over Snow Leopard.

Watch the full interview: Miller slows down the security situation on Mac OS X and iOS, and talks about the techniques that he used to hack iPhone in Pwn2Own.

Get a Vizio 32-inch HDTV for $ 259.99-CNET (blog)

The Vizio E320VA offers 31. 5-inch goodness of HDTV for under $ 300.(Credit: CompUSA)

Strabismus still on a tiny TV in your den, bedroom or apartment elegantly compact? Here is your chance to Make something bigger on the cheap.

TigerDirect.com has the refurbished Vizio E320VA 32 inch LCD HDTV for $ 259.99, plus around $ 22 for shipment. If this happens to sell out, which seems to be the default this week, try Overstock.com, which has the same model for $ 279.99 plus $ 2.95 for shipping. (Its total out the door is about the same).

Oh and just to cover all my bases today, Amazon has Vizio E320VA new to $ 294.98 shipped. As far as I'm a big believer in refurbished gear, it is probably worth an extra $ 13 to get a full one year warranty instead 90 days included with reconditioned models.

The E320VA offers 31. 5-inch viewing area, four HDMI ports (including one on side-very helpful) and a maximum resolution of 1.366 by 768 pixels-aka 720 p. You should not opt for a 1080p TV instead? With this size, you probably won't find one, as it is almost impossible to discern the difference between the two resolutions.

CNET hasn't reviewed this model. The small number of user reviews in CompUSA are favorable, but on Amazon they are slightly more mixed. See if you can assume that the main complaint. Yep: sound. As with virtually all low end HDTV I've never seen (and heard), the speakers about this probably aren't great.

Even so, if you're in the market for an HDTV and your budget is in the top 300 dollars, this is definitely worth a look. I have a smaller model in my room, Vizio and the picture is nothing less than beautiful. (The sound: yeah, meh.)

Business Bonus: If you'll forgive a little quick nepotism, CNET has a pretty sweet deal, running from now until March 31. When you sign up for a free trial month of Netflix, you can get CNET TechTracker Plus (Windows/Mac) free of charge. This software seriously helpful manager/updater normally sells for $ 29.99.

Sony Vaio hybrid PC to feature Intel Thunderbolt: report-eWeek

Sony may be working on a lightweight Vaio hybrid PC that can compete with skinny minny-Apple's MacBook Air.

The company is according to Sony Insider cooking up a laptop that "consists of two components" and the Intel Thunderbolt technology previously code-named "light Peak" that in February on the new Apple MacBook Pro notebooks, the slightly heftier cousins of the MacBook Air debuted. An i/o technology based on PCI Express and DisplayPort, Thunderbolt was designed as a way of more simply connect a PC with peripherals and more quickly transferring data. According to Apple, is the "12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0."

Intel, described in a February 24, press release coincides with the MacBook Pro s release, Thunderbolt of speeds as enabling users to wear a full-length high-definition movie in less than 30 seconds or "back-up a year of continuous MP3 playback in just over 10 minutes."

Two-component for Sony's Vaio, Sony Insider, reports the notebook part of it, contains a Intel Wireless Display, a solid-state hard disk, an i7 processor, HDMI output (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) with support for 3D, battery life of 8 to 16-plus hour, and a total weight of about 2.5 pounds. (The MacBook Air weighs 2.3 pounds.)

The "second component," says the site, which is "what will be unique for this Vaio when connected," contains a separate AMD Whistler GPU with 1 GB VRAM; a Blue-ray disc drive, HDMI output, VGA output, an Ethernet port, a USB port and a weight of about 1.5 pounds.

"Overall, the notebook looks pleasing to the eyes, aesthetically designed in its VAIO fashion; However, we are not quite sure about the purpose of the second part, "declares the site. "The weather reminds me of a Sony marketed back in 2007 VAIO RM series that featured a twin-unit form factor desktop model."

Exactly what Sony has planned is unclear. What is known, however, is that what this device is, it will hardly be alone in with Thunderbolt. According to Intel, a number of manufacturers producing computers, monitors, storage devices, cameras, docking stations and more have announced plans to the technology in upcoming products include.

On 10 March, camera maker Canon joined them, announcement in a statement, "We're excited about Thunderbolt technology and will the new levels of performance and simplicity to the creation of video-market feel."

The Sony Insider report added that Sony is also working on a Vaio notebook running Google's Chrome OS. It's expected to be equipped with a 11.6-inch display, an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB of memory, a 16 GB multimedia electronic map (eMMC), an ultra-low-power GeForce GPU, support for wireless LAN, fast startup and 8 hours of battery life. Another lightweight, rumor has to weigh in at 2.2 pounds.

Sony invents MLB video game - the daily Evergreen

With major league baseball opening day just around the corner, best players get their baseball kick early with 11 MLB: the show.

Cover athletes, the Joe wall and Sony with the latest installment of their signature not disappoint baseball game.

It's an old saying, "If it broke, not not resolve." Well, Sony took a different approach. You decided to upgrade their game and make it better.

Instead of the approach of hitting buttons, only the game uses the PlayStation 3 analog controls use. The new system makes hitters back on the stick their hitters stride and then to push pull it forward to vibrate. The system adds a new dimension of timing to the beat and the game is realistic.

In the field players can hold the analogue system the stick in the direction of a base to throw. The harder throw, throw the ball way is the another chance is. However, a new feature is that players can cancel a throw, if they release even the ball not.

This allows players and deke opponents to try by feigning a throw pump. It is a minor adjustment, but it is one that adds the authenticity of the game. As beat, the pitching system involves the use of analog-stick. Pitchers, how well they control the pitch and have the opportunity, speed change, by you the analog-stick faster or slower. MLB 11 continue to their popular game mode "Road to the Show." RTTS players create a digital version of itself and developed to a team. The player starts with limited capabilities and begins with their double-A farm team franchise.

A different tweak is that the nature and way players improve their digital player. Previously, points were for good plays, but there were also a number of in-game objectives, the player had to for points to reach. The in-game goals were for a scoring system Milton of Milton was scrapped. Players earn points on every Milton. For example, a 12-pitch strikeout will earn more points when flying from Center on the first place that you see.

I like it because it wasn't for you will punish bad luck. In the final game, players could get smoking four drives, which all have been caught and no points. Get in the game players credit for the ball well beat.

The game features corresponds to the usual process list of a franchise mode and single as well. Players can also their friends or the computer to a home run Derby challenge. The biggest criticism with the game is the lack of change of the predecessors of the game. Errors in the field seem completely arbitrary to be and the running system can always still difficult, especially when trying a runner move, while the other to master, be. However, the almost sport that criticism can be games all said. It's hard to change the formula because the formula is a sport and have no major changes year. 11 MLB: The show did a fantastic job what is quality to improve always a game. The new beat and fields system should keep enough to players on their toes. As PlayStation marketing character Kevin Butler would say, "well played, wall."

Diving in waters deep cloud for Google Apps, Amazon EC2 - CIOL

BANGALORE, India: it was a time where companies like Oracle said, ' he did y nothing called cloud '; However, now all admit that "everything that today is the cloud."

"Cloud has made the task of the single developer and company's lower infrastructure investment as it provides a large pool of massively scalable infrastructure is tenants and elastic in nature","said Rohit Bhardwaj, senior engineer, Kronos.".

He was a session on "Cloud computing diving in waters," deep for Google Apps and Amazon EC2 the first day of the spark it 2011, where he gave to the public practical experience on how to use cloud computing for Google App Engine and Amazon EC2.

He said that Google App Engine, a powerful cloud computing platform, is designed so that it will help developers to create and manage, scalable web applications on the JVM.

"The Google App Engine is a platform for developing and hosting web applications in managed by Google data centers." The Google App Engine is an example of cloud technology as it virtualizes applications on multiple servers and data centers, said Bhardwaj.

Therefore, if a developer is developing a Java on App Engine application, they would probably already know that they can use the JPA and JDO Java persistence API to interact with the data store. It has also shown how to take advantage of the API in the construction of clouds.

Bhardwaj also explained how to deploy groovy on grails on Amazon EC2 request. Amazon EC2 is the platform (AHA) hardware-as-a-service cloud provider of Amazon Web Services. Amazon Web Services also provides software-as-a-service (SaaS) with AWS S3 and database-as-a-service (DaaS) with DB Simple.

He concluded by saying that while the clouds offers many advantages there was still several obstacles, such as security, the protection of personal information, the connectivity, OpenAccess, reliability, interoperability, independence of the CSPI, economic value, the it governance, and policy questions overall limits, when it comes to computer adoption in enterprises of the clouds, which must be addressed.

Four reasons for Firefox 4 to go – and one reason why it can't. "-ZDNet (blog)

"The operating system and application Interoperability

War on the OS really feel like the browser wars in recent years. Microsoft still has most of the OS market, interoperable with other OSes or not, are still a piece of the market share of the browser. Add-on compatibility is more important than the OS compatibility IMO.

Firefox has the most add-ins, so Yeah, it's still my primary browser.

"Speed"

The rate is rising for all browsers, and the latest versions of all of them are lightning fast.

I think we're going to major wall with optimization, however, as they are very similar in terms of performance.

I found that most of the speed differences are now on the manage window and tabs. Sometimes it takes a while IE9 to open a new window or tab.

There are also some problems with memory usage-different browsers use different amounts of memory. In a system with lots of RAM it's nonsense, but something like a netbook, it may be a major problem.

It seems that Firefox 4 today to be better, but practically could not use 3.x at all and completely switched to Chrome for a while. I hate to say it, but Firefox was in fact one of the worst browsers for a while. Lock memory usage, and brings me to the madness.

"The interoperability of the Web"

I had some problems of the current HTML 5 tests, which cause many people to claim that IE is still behind you. They barely even standard and test clouds unrelated things.

So until I see better tests, I wouldn't compare with HTML 5 support.

"Properties"

This is the main reason why I still use Firefox. Czech support to Firefox addon is great.

I like tab grouping, but I am completely convinced that it is not yet stable. Has some problems. It also has some problems with the performance and memory usage, it seems, but it's a great idea, and I hope to improve it over time.

"but all together it's good enough to return users who have moved back to Chrome, or IE?"

It's done for me. I like chrome, but it is not enough to permanently. As soon as it came out of Firefox 4, I tried it again, and I'm sticking to it.

"I think a lot of people like controls readily available lined up in the upper part of the program, even if the use of screen real estate."

You're right. Like a minimalist UI is somewhat a matter of taste. Many people prefer to have everything what is available, even if that's a bit crowded.

"Today, but I'm afraid his case too little and too late, to the tenderer in 2011."

I think that it remains competitive. I'm not like this "If you're not # 1, you're nothing." logic that ZDNet loves to use. I think that Firefox will remain for some time. I think it will be all right for the three major browsers on the market.

The advance of the Bell: Hewlett-Packard-BusinessWeek

NEW YORK

Shares of Hewlett - Packard Co. dug decrease with the larger market in premarket trading Tuesday after CEO Leo Apotheker described the plans of the business of technology to sell "cloud computing" services in a near future, said HP plans to raise its dividend for the first time in ten years.

HP shares have slipped in a bond around the world as Japan nuclear crisis continues to worsen. The small decline does not appear to be company-specific as the analysts expressed confidence in the prospects of HP. Scholarship of the nose-dived almost 11% Japan, leading the significant decline in the Tuesday before the opening of the U.S. Exchange on world markets. HP shares slid 66 cents, or 1.6%, to $40.83 in premarket trading.

Monday, Apotheker publicly exposed his strategy for HP for the first time since his arrival to the position of CEO, four months ago. While he offered few details, the "public cloud" was one of the few specifics. Mitel adds video presence to desktop clients-ITWorld Canada

With organizations becoming increasingly testing the use of videoconferencing, Mitel Networks Inc. has made it easy to launch desktop point-to-point video from your client application.

Ottawa-based company said Monday that unified Communicator Advanced 4.0, its desktop client now shows video presence within an enterprise, enabling connectivity with just one click. Availability display as an icon next to the name of a person's small camera.

The idea, said Riendeau Brooks, a manager of Mitel solutions is that it "puts video to the user's fingertips."

UCA 4. 0 adds what Mitel calls "context" for video calls, which is the ability to send a pop-up message to text you want to have someone with video call and explain why you want to connect instead of having to call them.

This accompanies the previous ability to send messages to the context for voice calls.

Another client's main improvement is the ability to show the presence of Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) and Lotus Sametime. Until now the UCA had only telephony connectivity between these applications.

"Organizations that have invested heavily in OCS or Sametime have a path that can go forward with for best of breed" system of communication including Mitel, Riendeau said.

Connectivity presence with the new Microsoft Lync will later this year with an update, he added.

Finally dispersed early UC server now can be linked through peering, which increases the scalability up to 10,000 users.

For users of smartphones, Mobile UC Advanced is limited to Blackberry by Research In Motion. However, Riendeau said customers for Apple iPhone and Android devices are coming this year.

Meanwhile, the customer is free to BlackBerry has been improved by giving organizations the ability to provide pathways for UC users avanzata. Taking advantage of the presence and GPS capabilities, which leaves the user's BlackBerry status change as they move. For example, a status "in Office" move mobile calls to fixed phone, while "home office" might allow only voice but not instant messages.

What is integration of the client with a list of native BlackBerry contacts. Previously the mobile UC client linked to business contacts, but the change now allows users to initiate calls from personal contacts at the level of the PBX, cutting down phone charges.

Riendeau would not say if or when Mitel Customer tablet PC should, other than noting the company is a strategic partner of Research In Motion.

RIM is about to release its Tablet Playbook.

The 10 biggest questions about Apple's (AAPL) iPhone 5-San Francisco Chronicle

Now that Apple's iPad 2 has launched, the next major product of the company to finish is the iPhone 5--or what Apple will call her next iPhone, expected this summer.

While the new iPhone will updated hardware and a new design may be, we are just so interested in Apple's software improvements.

That is where the business smartphone is headed, and while the software from Apple is still for the competition in General, there are a number of areas where rivals Google and Microsoft do it better than Apple.

While the iPhone hardware is definitely sexy, it is software that makes it really an iPhone. So what Apple have planned for the next major version of the iOS software for iPhones and iPads?

We asked a dozen iOS developers what they wanted from iOS 5, and their answers included: a better system of alerts and notifications; more background audio processing--so that the New York Times app news articles could download while you sleep, for example; and potentially "widgets" Customizing your iPhone unlock or home screens.

We would also like to see a much better camera app, and maybe a better photo management app, more like iPhoto for Mac OS x. the iPhone camera is very important, and while third-party developers such as Insta grams have some really cool things, it makes sense for Apple software, the built-in camera.

We expect that some of the usual updates--faster, more memory, new chip, maybe some new hardware features--and a new design for the iPhone 5.

While the iPhone 4 still an attractive phone is, and is still selling, it will be a year old June this year. That's a long time in the smartphone industry, where new phones are constantly coming out. So we do not expect another iPhone 3GS-like "update" of Apple ever again, where it keeps the same phone case design of one year for the next but only upgrades the guts.

This supposed leaked image would be--certainly looks like the iPad 2--or it could be a fake. But anyway, we expect a new design.

The critics have shut up about Apple's iPhone 4 design, and "antennagate" does not appear to have no influence on sales. So we would not be surprised to see the iPhone 4 stick around as Apple's cheaper iPhone model. But we expect at least some moderate updates this year at the high end model.

The iPhone 5 hardware and software is important, but "cloud" on the back-end services are becoming increasingly important for smartphones, and Apple could stand some improvements.

For example: how about letting you sync your phone over wi-fi instead of having to plug in a USB cable? How about being able to access your iTunes music library? How about in order to be able to grab some of your iPhoto pictures of the road?

How to share photos with other iPhone users without email?

Some or all of this functionality may be built in a new service mobileme, which Apple could potentially cheaper or even free. Some may have to wait to be incorporated into the next version of Mac OS X, which is expected to ship this year.

But this is an area where Google more interesting things than Apple does, so it's time to wake up.

RIM, carriers battling on Mobile payment strategies-paidContent.org

Stalled negotiations on how best to implement the promising NFC (near field communications) wireless payment technology in research in Motion BlackBerry phones confirms the age-old battle between the hardware manufacturer and wireless carrier is still alive and kicking.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) and three major carriers — Rogers, AT&T (NYSE: T) and T-Mobile — are having a row over how it should fit on a single chip NFC devices. The chip, which would let users of the phone to pay for goods and services simply by swiping their phone near a reader wireless, Show a lot of promise towards reaching the goal of mobile portfolio and I have been talking a lot from Google (NSDQ: GOOG) in recent months.

See more of our most recent coverage of Apple
or add a warning to cover the future of Apple.

But as with many things, the dispute boils down to control which, according to the report. RIM wants the NFC chip embedded in the device itself, where claims that can be more secure. Wireless operators that is built into removable SIM card of the phone where users could swap into another phone. The real difference is that I would check payments: RIM could set your BlackBerry payment archive, while the carrier would be part of mobile payments of your monthly Wireless Bill, with each taking a cut from merchants.

Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) is probably thinking the same way that RIM, which might explain the conflicting reports in recent weeks, more or less the next iPhone would come with a NFC chip. Google is believed to be working on their own NFC service that presumably is being tested in some markets.

Apple Digital AV Adapter-PC Magazine

Smart cover with Apple ($ 39-$ 69, 4 stars) garnering greater attention within 2 iPad accessories, it's easy to forget about the Digital AV adapter Apple ($ 39). Too bad, because it is another simple accessory that solves problems and creates new ways of using the iPad ($ 499-$ 829, 4.5 stars). Note that I said "iPad 2". While the Digital AV adapter is compatible with the original iPad, iPhone 4 ($ 199-$ 299, 4.5 stars), and the latest iPod touch ($ 229-$ 399, 5 stars), it does not mirror their home screens on your TV as it does for the iPad 2e shows only pictures and video playback. Still, it is somewhat useful for other devices, and for the iPad is a great tool. The price may seem a little high for what is essentially a specialized cable, but there's nothing out there that can do this without an elaborate set-up, for $ 40 seems fair.

Design

White adapter measures approximately 4. 2 inches long and about 0. 3 inches thick, is a little thicker than the sync cable at anchor point. One end is connected to the connection of 30 pins of the iPad and the other end has a HDMI output, along with another 30-pin connector that attaches to your cable load/synchronization. Set up is mindlessly easy — simply plug the charger cable and HDMI cable and the iPad and you're ready. (At the risk of stating the obvious, the other end of the HDMI cable should be connected to your HDTV or monitor.)

Apple AV Adapter

An interesting observation: sometimes when I disconnected the cable, synchronization, the mirror image of iPad's video would disappear from television, which would then look for an input signal and come up empty-handed. Thus, while the 30-pin connector to the HDMI output can be marketed as a port, useful to keep your iPad charged while you glide through presentations on TV, it seems a little more critical. Nevertheless, this issue only occurred a few times. Strangely, he seemed to have little to do with the remaining battery life of the iPad, as he was almost fully loaded most of the time.

If you plan on holding the iPad 2 while playing a game or making presentations, you'll want to be sitting or standing near a wall outlet since the iPad charging cable isn't terribly long. I also recommend using the adapter with a long HDMI cable loose — the more you have, the easier it is to manipulate the iPad, which becomes less gracious when the Digital AV adapter is attached to it.

Performance

The Digital AV adapter produces mirror images of 1080p your desktop, but when you run the video, it defaults to 720 p. When watching video stored on iPad, you can hit a button in the upper left corner of the screen that alternately fill the screen entirely or using letterbox mode. If you're watching YouTube, the expand control in the lower left of the window of the video switches between fill up your television screen or play the video in the YouTube app, which appears in the window of the iPad-shaped mirror images on TV. When the video of 720 p, say a movie purchased from the iTunes Store plays through the adapter on a television screen, it looks very sharp. We're not talking level Blu-ray video, but it is a high-resolution experience. Photos will look similarly sharp, assuming they low resolution. When watching videos of low resolution — say, some YouTube clip non-HD — the results are predictably ugly. Obviously that is not a knock on the adapter — low-resolution images never goes well when he is blown, and there's not much to do about it. That's because the toggle button to fill the screen or return to the mirror-image size is so necessary.

IPod touch (4th gen) iPhone 4 and iPad original all play video and view photos via adapter, but just the iPad 2 supports mirror images. In other words, if you were hoping to use the adapter to play games or view apps on your iPod touch into your television, you can't. iPad apps, games for, say, GarageBand, however, are perfectly mirrored in real time on an HDTV using the Digital AV adapter.

It is important to note that if you have an Apple TV ($ 99, 4-stars), you can use the AirPlay feature on your device iOS to stream video wirelessly to your TV. In other words, for about $ 60 more, you can watch the same video you are sending via cable television, but without wires. However, airplay, and Apple TV does not support mirror imaging, so the Digital Av adapter remains a unique accessory – especially if you have an iPad 2.

Of course, watch the slideshows or videos or games, since the iPad HDTV is very fun, but the adapter is also helpful. Teachers can design lessons and presentations for entrepreneurs their iPads. Is it worth $ 40? For owners of iPad 2, Yes — is a simple, all-in-one (well, minus the HDMI cable not included) that helps you get the most from your tablet and HDTV. For last-gen iPod touch, iPhone 4, and original owners of the iPad, it doesn't seem worth the price since it can make much less.

The final edition of the Khronos WebGL 1.0 specifications-computer graphics world

WebGL defines JavaScript binding for OpenGL ES 2.0 provides rich 3D graphics in the browser on all platforms that support the standard OpenGL or OpenGL ES graphics API. WebGL has the support of large silicon and build the browser vendors such as Apple, Google, Mozilla and Opera, with multiple browsers already expedition with WebGL implementations, including beta releases for Mozilla Firefox 4.0, all feeds Google Chrome 9.0, Opera Preview, and Apple Mac OS Safari nightly build.

WebGL is OpenGL ES graphics Accessibility 2.0 on almost all browsers that support desktop, mobile and embedded platforms and the latest Web development technologies, including JavaScript performance. Web developers to access OpenGL graphics directly from JavaScript and wild mix of 3D with other content HTML, potentially enabling a new wave of innovation in Web games, educational and training applications and graphically rich user interface with more pleasant, productive and intuitive Web site.

A living ecosystem middleware about WebGL provides a wide diversity of Web developers the ability to create compelling 3D content for browsers that support WebGL. These tools include: C3DL, CopperLicht, EnergizeGL, GammaJS, GLGE, GTW, O3D, the OSG.JS, SceneJS, SpiderGL, TDL, the Three .js and the X3DOM.

In addition to the WebGL specification, Khronos has created a comprehensive set of WebGL experiment, which can be downloaded free of charge. Implementers of WebGL-browser may run a test suite and save their completion of the test results in order to be able to specify their implementation as appropriate specification of WebGL.

"Nvidia helped form the WebGL initiative, we believe that it fundamentally changes the Web experience and we are committed to provide the optimal experience WebGL across graphics Quadro and GeForce to a desktop computer and based on Tegra Tablet and superphones," says Neil Trevett, President of the Khronos Group and Vice President of mobile content at NVIDIA. "Khronos WebGL working group is uniquely productive forum, brought together the browser and the GPU vendors. Khronos is committed to working with the Web community to ensure that webgl is a dynamic and enabling a piece of the ecosystem of the Web with HTML5 for desktop and mobile platforms. "

Khronos is also announced the formation of a working group of the WebCL survey, the definition of the link JavaScript Khronos OpenCL standard for heterogeneous parallel computing.  WebCL creates the potential for the GPU and multi-core CPU parallel processing from your Web browser, enabling acceleration of applications, such as image and video processing and modern physics for WebGL game.

Microsoft + IE9: Svatější than Apple open site convert? -Register

This is a remarkable turnaround. Microsoft, a company that, more than any other was responsible for the freezing of Web standards, first killing the browser competition, and then update your browser for five years, with the browser, that is-at least-decent.

Internet Explorer 9 combines a hardware-accelerated graphics with the compiler just-in-time for JavaScript and support for some of the new standards, which consists of HTML 5. Also de-cluttered user interface that appears close to the philosophy of Google Chrome: browser gets out of the way Web content or application.

It's not the best browser on Windows. Win every performance test, nor is its support for HTML 5, as extensive as in some browsers. Integration with Windows is strong, as you would expect, and its privacy controls are excellent. Microsoft also has some long-lasting trouble, such as the administration of the primitive downloading in previous versions. IE9 is a download manager, this means that users can easily find their downloads to finish. IE9 is generally good, that using a different Web browser is no longer a clear choice.

The interesting question is "Why"? Microsoft was simply so pissed off that expanded market share for IE that has decided its best efforts to reverse the trend? It is a strategic step unobtrusively to promote Bing search, Bing maps, Microsoft and other Internet services? Or Microsoft experienced a sudden transition to web standard religion?

Remember that the press briefing at Microsoft TechEd Europe around ten years go when asked about the future of IE. The answer I got was that Microsoft, in a position to deliver rich HTML experience users, requested that future investment should focus on the integration of applications with Web services.

A side effect, which Microsoft mentioned, would increase the Windows lock-in one of the reasons why Microsoft competed vigorously with Netscape in the 1990s was that concepts such as Netscape webtop, hosted a workspace browser, the host operating system threatened to neopomíjet. Beat Netscape, and then cold HTML Microsoft protect their application platform.

Today Microsoft has reversed its position and works to Firefox browser almost identical with the native application. Vice Dean Hachamovitch in IE9 Edition notification writes: "with IE9, consumers can keep your Web site to the center of their browsing, the PIN is on the main panel and the interaction with them as they make applications with hardware accelerated HTML5Vývojári can use the same markup across the browser to add a new class of Web experiencethat's more apps than servers. "

Microsoft is not primarily to support Bing or compete with Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. What makes more sense the company recognizes that it must have a wide range of platform alongside Windows succeed in diverse world of mobile devices, and increasing the number of Mac computers and that his efforts.NET and Silverlight are not capable of this wide range of platform.

It seems that in the IE team.NET. Microsoft Professional Developer Conference in Seattle, Washington in the last year, Microsoft Articulated its Internet platform strategy, while hardly ever mentions the browser plugin Silverlight. Further evidence is that Microsoft has all but dropped support for the XBAP INTEGRATION, XAML browser applications Windows host with the desktop.NET Framework. XBAP INTEGRATION are currently disabled in the Internet zone by default and only work in Windows networks.

It may be significant that at the same time, when Microsoft became an advocate of HTML 5, Apple, randomly, or design, it updates its iOS mobile operating system in a manner that protects the benefits of the native application by disabling compiler just-in-time JavaScript for HTML 5 applications, which are held on the home screen.

Apple wins If developers focus their platform alone. Microsoft WINS if the developers focus on Windows only; But it is not a viable strategy, so it is better to promote common standards.

In a sense then Microsoft embrace HTML 5 is a sign of weakness, not strength. At the same time is a significant achievement and one that will increase the browser platform for the entire industry.

Microsoft's browser share may decline, but IE is still the most popular browser globally and will always be popular amongst the enterprise admins group because of its integration with a management tool for Windows. The appearance of the IE9 will be real change on the reach of modern browser hosted applications.

That said, Microsoft as a whole is not United on this issue. It's strange, for example, that the issue at the same time, the developer team has completed the IE9 Beta 2 for Visual Studio LightSwitch, which is designed for rapid development of database applications. LightSwitch goals of Silverlight, and while it's impressive product in a way, it would make sense if it built more HTML applications that run across multiple devices.

LightSwitch illustrates how it is hard to tell the Microsoft strategy. At the same time has several strategies. However, the initiation of the IE9 is crucial moment in the history of the company, leaning from pure clients and toward interdisciplinary Web standards. ®

Starwatch consumer | Netflix wants an exclusive; Apple tweaks game purchases ...-Kansas City Star

Netflix content

Netflix Inc. is trying to buy the Internet streaming rights to "House of Cards," a 26-episode drama starring Kevin Spacey, before the series is displayed on a television network. Netflix currently offers more than 20,000 titles in its streaming library, but most of them are previously aired TV shows and older movies. Should the right to "house of cards" win, Netflix would emerge as a more serious threat to pay-TV channels such as HBO.

All purchases, or in the iTunes store or within, kid-friendly games such as "the the Smurf Village," by without a new password.

Data beams

AT&T is placing a limit on the amount of data that are home Internet subscribers in a month. AT&T depicted the announcement as an attempt to curb "data hogs", but it might help the company in the long term an income stream preserved as people shift to Internet-based TV services.

AT&T said it will start charging extra after subscribers over 150 gigabytes in a month, an amount which it said only 2 percent of the subscribers. AT&T said that the average monthly consumption for DSL customers is 18 GB. For U-verse, a faster version of DSL available in some areas, will the monthly CAP 250 gigabytes.

Report: Designer Ive not leaving Apple-PC Magazine

Apple's golden boy designer Jonathan Ive will not be leaving the company for his native Great Britain, according to a recent profile in the UK's daily mail.

Ive been with Apple for nearly two decades. He is behind the signature Apple design as the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and most recently, the iPad 2.

"Ive, Apple Inc. of an also-ran popular primarily with designers put in the second-largest company in the world, with a higher turnover than Google or Microsoft. He receives [24 million dollars] in Apple shares only next year, "said the Daily Mail.

The designer has reportedly married with Apple for the past three years by a $ 30 million "golden handcuffs" which just expired. Ive reportedly a desire to spend more time in the United Kingdom and proposed a plan that would allow him to "commute" back and forth between Cupertino and his manor in Somerset. Apple's Board of Directors reportedly shot down that request, I've left on an impasse, but that is not the case, said the Daily Mail.

Ive has no plans to depart from Apple, the newspaper reported. The story also debunked rumors that Ive is provided to take over for Apple chief Steve Jobs, who is currently on medical leave.

"It is difficult to know what is the larger intrigue: recent suspicion that [Ive] is willing to walk from Apple to move to his beautiful Grade-II-listed Manor House in Somerset, so his children can be trained in the United Kingdom (false-he is stapling property is now vacant); that he will step out of the shadows and Steve Jobs role when the big man down state (highly doubtful), "the report said.

In the profile specifies the Daily Mail a long look in the life of Ive, who is credited with a bunch of Apple's success in the last ten years. He talked about the unexpected sources of his inspiration for the sleek look of Apple products – from samurai swords to Sunflower stalks.

Ive the name had been mentioned as a possible successor to jobs for the first time that the CEO went on medical leave back in 2007. However, MacRumors noted that Ives is an unlikely candidate as he prefers to focus on design and behind the scenes work.

Kinect work on the PlayStation 3 - TechSpot hacked

Hacker Shantanu Goel has its Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect work with the Sony PlayStation 3 accessories. He achieved the feat by connecting the Kinect with his laptop, drivers running Prime sense's Kinect (as also the OpenNI libraries and the NITE libraries). The movement is converted into raw tracking data and PS3 compatible data on the DIYPS3Controller again.

The result is in the position that use Kinect, to control your PS3 through your PC, even if it is very shaky, as the information in the form of normal PS3 controller are sent movements. The hack is in a very early stage of development, but it shows that in any case, that is possible.

"Now, of course, Kinect works with PS3 obviously but then if we can not the rules against, we can at least turn it a little on our way," Goel said in a statement. "I've created a mashup you can use as an input controller for the PS3 Kinect." Please note that the pre alpha quality software is up to date. I have not updated to a lot of the final code for the following libraries and also not the most of the performance/feature improvements have done. The axis special needs performance much tweaking and it works well just sit. Implementing this as a proof of concept. "

Here is his current to do list:

Full menu and game ProfilesSkeletal tracking for better game ProfilesSwitching back to menu sections of game ProfilesEasier way to custom user profiles instead of profile modifying code for the Sami performance improvement for game specify

We are questions, if anyone has tried the PlayStation move work on an Xbox 360, or if it is not even bother value. If you have a PS3, this hack excited with the potential opportunities you will?

Amazon Cloud offer free networking tools - EnterpriseNetworkingPlanet

New Amazon Web Services networking tools will make it easier for users to manage secure connections between the data center and Amazon EC2 and S3 cloud computing platform. As indicated on the data center knowledge, the tools include a new graphical interface to help users to configure "virtual private clouds" using four predefined network architectures.

"Web evangelist Amazon Jeff Barr describes the new features of a blog note, describing the new version as"one"that can change very well in this way that you think about EC2 and how it can be put to use in your environment."

"" You can now create a network topology, in the cloud AWS that closely resembles that of your physical data center, including the public, private and DMZ subnets "wrote Barr." "" Instead of dealing with cables, routers and switches, you can design and instantiate your network by programming. You can use the Management Console AWS (including a new slick Wizard), command line tools or APIs. This means that you could store your layout of the whole of the network as a summary and then make the request. ""

Big screen Buys: A Home Theater how-to-KERO-TV 23

College basketball games are going to fill television screens throughout the month of March, but said that the screen in your living room? A new home theater system can seem quite tempting. Maybe you'll splurge for that new flat screen TV, 46 inch high definition, or you'll go to that sound system and elegant Silver with two subwoofers shaking roof. Everything you need for your entertainment, there are some ways you can make sure that you get the most from your investments. Consider your space: Before leaving for a store, or even online, take a moment to imagine how you will use your entertainment system and how it should be wrapped. Will it only be used to play DVDs or would like a multiple-disc changer for music too? Where are the electrical outlets and their locations limited layout options? These types of questions will help you plan the placement of furniture and will definitely help you, since you have a tangle of wires and receivers in your hands. Search to find components to meet your needs: After your system is ideal for brainstorming, don't just run a store to see what they have on sale. While you can find a good deal on a system, it may not be for you. If you're going to drop a lot of money, with the objective of complete satisfaction. Otherwise, you can be the victim of an "up-sell" that will leave you with buyer's remorse. Carefully Search and select items that suit your specific needs and your space and take the decision yours-no sales associate. After all, you have to live with what you purchase.Read, read and read a bit more to make sure that all elements are supported:Fortunately, BluRay vs. HD DVD war is over, but there are still many things to consider. You need to make sure that the receiver is equipped to deal with how many speakers you're bringing in--usually between a 5. 1 or 7. 1 with the highest figures around speakers and 1 representing the subwoofer. This can be confusing, but that's why it's important to read and reread to confirm that all elements can combine and interact peacefully with each other as they should. Test drive its electronics before you buy: If you are buying a known brand-which is probably your safest bet--chances are that you will be able to find a unit similar to what you're looking to buy at a local electronics store or national chain. Put in a DVD you know well and ask a sales associate to allow you to test it. This way you will notice if something looks or if you would be disappointed once you get everything together at home. It will also give you a chance to investigate the system controls and menus to see if they are easy to use. Check out online: Unless you don't feel comfortable handling your own installation, you can save some big bucks, minding the assembly yourself. You can also save big by purchasing your equipment on the Web. There are several great places to grab loot online video such as NewEgg or Amazon, where you can buy high-quality electronics for great prices and have them delivered to your door.Distributed by Internet broadcasting. Browser war to heat up with new products from the Opera-WebProNews

Big news from Google Chrome and Firefox browser war in time of anything, just relax. Norwegian browser Opera has also put his place in the war with a couple of recent announcements. At SXSW WebProNews caught up with Charles McCathieNevile, Opera's Chief standards to talk about the recent efforts of the company.

So firstly, Opera has released a new version of its Opera browser 10 11 beta, which is named "Barracuda." In addition, it is introduced into the beta set of debugging tools called Opera Dragonfly. According to these two events have McCathieNevile great features that the user of the Opera. He said that Opera 11 users can synchronize function, such as Opera unite and connect with their mobile browser enables you to respond to both platforms for bookmarks and other elements.

The company also is making headway in the mobile with Opera Mobile introductions 11 and Opera Mini. Opera Mobile is fully mechanized browser with a new, fast interface, which allows the API. McCathieNevile pointed out that the Opera Mini focused user experience. Opera Mobile and Opera Mini are also optimized for tablets.

All new versions of Opera have improved support for standards as well.

In terms of what Sets Opera apart from competition McCathieNevile explained that users can run the browser to nothing and that their tools include a lot of features.

"It's fast, it's safe, it is compatible with standards, [and] it is a high-quality, modern browser;"and when you dig in it, you can only find a lot more, "he said.

He showed that the company is working in TV, offering also. By the way the Inquirer reports that Opera has just announced the Opera devices 3.0, which is in the latest version of its Web browser for TVs.

Because privacy is always a big issue for those browsers, Opera also work in this area. McCathieNevile said that privacy was "a key issue for a long time" for Opera. User experience at the Opera is encrypted to ensure that the user is not pursued or followed.

While Opera 11 provides users and clearly understand what you are connecting to, the browser continues to work on them helps to better distinguish between trusted servers and secure servers. McCathieNevile also pointed out that the users should have a very simple and clear choice as regards their browsing. In other words, it is necessary to communicate these options so that all users understand.

He said that the Opera will continue to work towards this initiative, because it could be used to increase privacy.

Are cloud companies in denial of risk? -Wall Street Journal (blog)

Risk is one of the key, if not the key, questions for the people of switching to cloud services. Dare to put all my data there? Arik Hesseldahl from our sister site interviews of all things D Drew Bartkiewicz, a former employee of Salesforce.com (described as "already drank deep of the Kool-Aid cloud") who watched this field in great depth.

Mr. Bartkiewicz force share sale to work in the insurance industry, underwriting of insurance policies to technology companies as vice President for cyber and information security risks.

Its history unique work led him to start asking fundamental questions about cloud computing and its business models which should if nothing else to some potential customers of cloud pause and reposition cloud service providers-as diverse the force sales, Amazon Web ServicesAzur Microsoft and the like-to believe in something they rarely speak: risk.

Not to be confused with security. Talk to the Executive of every provider… of clouds and you will quickly discover that cloud providers take security seriously and they mean, because without it, they are out of business.

On the contrary, the question is this: If a cloud catastrophe happens-critical, financially valuable data are raped or exposed or destroyed on a large scale-who financially responsible for the damage caused to the business of the customer? Is the cloud provider, who has agreed to manage the data on the client's account? Is cloud computing or even a kind of use-your-own-risk of thing? The answer is, there is no clear answer. Bartkiewicz believes that the cloud computing industry will have to begin to answer it, and soon.

All things D: clouds are in denial of risk?

Xbox 360 vs. PS3: this is closer to maxing out? Attack of the fanboy

Xbox 360 vs. PS3: this is closer to maxing out?

What does really mean maxing a console?  Is still maxed out the 360?  How about the PS3? Now to my point: have you noticed that each year some game developer has announced that their upcoming game "out the console maxed has", but still look like play and one better performance every year?  It is not much point, can we agree on this.   Not yet, never in players in one einziehenraserei get such comments. It works. But wait a minute! They have the same thing a year ago say?  An old, well used, but great quote by Naughty Dog is here to answer my questions:

"Every developer who a"Percent of system used"answer is blowing smoke." The truth is that each developer uses 100% of the systems on each game. Some get only more 100% than others. And game after game, we all get more systems than we on the previous title.

Think of it this way. If the system you some a glass casting developer rocks to the glass overflows and then call, the it is terminated. She would claim that they use 100% of space systems. And it is true that no more stones fit. Some become too many in a rock and the game playing slowly or fun runs. But there is still some space left for smarter developers. Pour links from the rocks stones in the cracks, and get more into the glass. Then they call it 100% full. But some developers will then pour in the sand to fill the cracks between the pebbles. You get even more out of the system, but it is only 100% full. Some developers go the extra distance, and casting in water. Then, the glass is really full, right? Sure, but only for this title, because some of the rocks are replaced can with pebbles, the same thing to do, if you work hard. And some of the pebbles in sand can be made. And some sand press can, water. Non-developers always a glass is filled with only water, no developer has the time, so that non-developers really fills the glass

"We received only more and more the 100%."

So it is at the end not a question, you have used makes how much system, but how efficiently you use it (that's what she said...). Hardware is not always better on the 360/PS3/Wii, but know how to write code of optimal use set running hardware resources will be improved.  , The being said, if you hear people claiming "Killzone uses 3 100% of the PS3 power" or "No other engine can handle Crysis 2", stop, take a deep breath and don't think that the hype.  Resist the marketing jargon. Maybe true, maybe the hype machine their title is "100% of the system", but keep in mind that this is an empty statement and encoding can always be improved.  Judge game/graphics for themselves if the game is actually released.

One last thing to think, about the hypothetical situation where all code completely is optimized on a console... so really "maxing out a console." Over time on this gene, I expect developers this goal closer. I Killzone 4 Killzone 3, Crysis, Crysis 2, Gears of war expect 3 gears of war 2 and uncharted 3 uncharted 2 Excel Excel Excel Excel.  But as a developer this hypothetical limit approaching, the improvements are evolutionary, not revolutionary. I suspect that developers are now very close. For example, you expect something to beat uncharted 2 out of the water (although the hype machines are in full force at the moment of...), even if it it upwards.  Also remember that in this hypothetical situation, limited resources between things such as resolution, AI, frame rate, textures it would, lighting, effects, sound, etc. to spread.   A game may very well be tops in graphics... but at the expense of other elements. And we all know that graphics are not everything.

Now that we have learned all something (hopefully), or at least a refresher, had finally with a controversial question: which console do you think closer to is "maxed out," is the 360 or PS3?

My opinion is that the Xbox 360 close is maxed out.  Why?  Because historically it simple console for to develop.  Architecture for the 360 was easier, wrap heads around, and thus developers it had more early progress on the 360, was closer to "maxing" and optimization code earlier in their life.  I would argue that history supports this view, since the average early multiplatform title edge graphics performance / had on the 360.    Developers struggled early on with the PS3 (above all, multi-platform), so they were close to maxing out.  Plus, it is my subjective opinion, that first party titles on the 360 in the years when compared to PS3 first party titles, so suggesting that optimization on the 360 closer than the PS3 may be less progress have made code.  Remember, 1st party exclusive games really should be the benchmark for the State of the art coding at any time.

Take to salt in the wounds of the 360, I predict also that as soon as we approach the hypothetical point of 100% code optimization ("true maxing out") on the 360 and PS3, you will find that PS3 total numbers game are impressive games in the.  Why? Although the 360 GPU is displayed, the stronger of the two, looks is the cell processor of the PS3 have more headroom than the 360... at least as far as theoretical number crunching.  So, the PS3 due to the pure hardware overhead should win situation in both cases, assuming a hypothetical optimal encoding.  People have predicted this for years.

But can be... Things slow down are not so easy.  So why are the 360/PS3 games yet at comparable levels in these days?  As already mentioned, I would argue that the PS3 in code optimization when compared to the 360 is lagging (not so party AAA very title in 1st) in relation to the theoretical "assembled from" border of the console.  The 360 is not fully optimised either, but it is again closer to this limit... I think.  How close?  I know not... and only when we manage things better not think it, I am sure that programmers surprised us all much smarter than I.  But again, if the PS3 due to hardware... win hypothetical optimal encoding in both cases, should eventually.  The big question is, how long it takes to get to at this time of the optimization?  I suspect we will see, a new Xbox (and Shorlty after PS4) before either console is allowed full "max out."

Run the Internet Explorer 6 Apps in IE8 with UniBrows-ReadWriteWeb

Find solutions to the specific needs of the industry or trade in the Centre of Qwest business solutions.

UniBrows, plugin from Browsium, allows users to use Internet Explorer 8 to display only for IE6 servers, was released from the beta today. The idea is to allow undertakings that require IE6 for legacy applications will be able to upgrade to a newer browser version. It would also provide a way to upgrade to Windows 7, which does not support Internet Explorer 6. UniBrows will also encourage the IE9 for a couple of weeks, according to the Browsium in Gary Schare.

Like we said, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 continues in many enterprises, for various reasons. Many organizations run a third-party or internal applications that require IE6, but are too expensive to upgrade or replace.

UniBrows, in beta version for the last six months, allows the administrator to specify a policy for specific servers that require IE6. IE8 will be used to retrieve these sites UniBrows with IE6 's rendering engine, and older versions of ActiveX components. All other servers will be used in the IE8 rendering engine, and the current version of the ActiveX. Browsium licence several DLLs from Microsoft to achieve this feat. Update: Schare explains that the Browsium or the licence. "Customers to download from the Microsoft Web site by using our training IE6 components."

Alternative approaches include running IE6 in a virtual machine, or you install IE6 on the Terminal Server. The downside is that it requires a license for your copy of Windows, or buy licences corresponding to the detriment of the Terminal server. Browsium will post organisation with 5 000-50 000 users, basic license fee of $ 5000 plus $ 5 per seat. Volume license agreements are available for the larger organization.

Browsium, based in Redmond, WA, and was created last year.

Owners of Apple's new MacBook Pros report problems with iTunes Home SharingBy Appleinsider Staff

Many owners of Apple's MacBook Pros report early 2011 not able to connect devices or maintain connections via iTunes Home sharing.

A support thread in Apple's discussion forums has more than 200 messages received from owners of Apple's latest MacBook Pros reporting issues with iTunes Home sharing. Several readers have also contacted Apple Insider on the issue.

"This is turning out to be a bigger problem than I thought that with many people stop their new MBP 2011 due to this conflict. Apple has yet to find a fix but it has been widely documented by phone through AppleCare and through many Apple retail stores, "wrote one reader.

According to forum user ' themacbear ', the new MacBook Pro was able to stream to a second generation Apple TV at first, but then the Apple TV reported no connect or would the error message "there are no films in this library."

Apple released the updated MacBook Pro lineup with Sandy Bridge processors and fast Thunderbolt i/o technology in late February.

In March released Apple iOS 4.3 new features for Home sharing. The Mac maker also issued iTunes 10.2 and 10.2.1 then iTunes compatibility with iOS 4.3 and Home sharing Add. In spite of the updates continue to be a number of users report not able to connect with iOS devices on their early 2011 MacBook Pros connections.

Recent improvements in the function to extend Home sharing iTunes library sharing just between Macs, PCs and Apple TVs to mobile devices such as iPods, iPhones and iPads. When working properly, State Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 an unlimited number of iOS devices access to content via Wi-Fi.

UniBrows runs IE6 Apps in Internet Explorer 8-InformationWeek

On Tuesday announced the launch of the security company Browsium UniBrows, lightweight browser add-on that allows existing Internet Explorer 6 to operate, "as is" in IE8, operating systems, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. UniBrows is transparent to end users. If you require IE6 simply loads in IE8.

Backstage manager of the IT administrator to specify configuration UniBrows when should load the plugin IE6, on the basis of individual applications. Also, security restrictions and allow older ActiveX and Java. This security setting are distributed to clients by using UniBrows Group Policy objects in Active Directory.

Who still uses IE6? According to Net Applications, from February 2011, IE6 still amounted to 11% of all browsers, IE8 (35%) and Firefox (18%), but first on IE7 (8%) and chromium (8%). Of course, IE6 usage may not be a choice. "What is clamoring for people running IE6, are clamoring for a way out of it, and stuck to it," said Gary Schare, President and COO Browsium in an interview.

Indeed, IE6 is out of date, unsupported, is a security risk and requires Windows XP. It not only prevents the organization from the upgrade to Windows 7-Windows XP still commands, twice the market share – but also from the installation of a newer version of IE, or by using programs such as Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

Many organizations, however, still rely on numerous client applications in a modern browser. In the meantime, others, bought software from PeopleSoft, SAP, Siebel, Hyperion and niche, vertical industry players, which is no longer supported.

"IE6, browser, which had a 95% market share in one minute, so, all built on him, and he had plenty of social interface. It was revolutionary for its day, "said Schare, who was the project manager for the IE mid IE6 through IE8. He said that while UniBrows beta users welcome from all sectors, there has been a disproportionate amount of the interest of the banking, pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations, because they tend to use a relatively large number of client applications.

It is interesting that Browsium isn't pitching UniBrows as IE6 salve, but also as a "Web application continuity tool, able to stop or resume the IE8, IE7 or IE6 at his last known working state. "A new version of Flash or Java usually requires very fragile Web applications," said Schare. "We'll keep the State of your Web applications platform to a known state, it should be them."

As a result of Microsoft ' with the Monday release of IE9, said to be released version is IE9-comptible UniBrows, in a few weeks, after a further compatibility testing.

Price-Wise for organizations with 5 000 to 50 000 PCs., UniBrows costs $ 5,000 per year, plus $ 5 per seat.

Web 2.0 Expo in the fifth year, now is for the builders of the next generation Web: designers, developers, entrepreneurs, marketers and business strategists. It happens, 28-31. March in San Francisco.

This Xbox scoop comes courtesy of ZDNet, which succeeded in their hands on the sensitive image in question. It shows a seductive hint of probably the successor to the Xbox 360 sees as we know it. Take a look (image courtesy ZDNet).

The cryptic note above on the image reads "Edit collaboration with Microsoft's IEB design group future user experiences and hardware for 2015." The image on the site of a Ben Patterson--a new addition in the Xbox team was posted reports suggest.

Right now, the details are hazy at best, and all in the realm of speculation because it looks like Microsoft has successor just started working on the Xbox 360 game console. But 2015 release date means that the current Xbox 360 console on the way to a decade as Microsoft's premier game console is complete. Thought ten years, who would have?

There you have it then, Sony's PS3 and Nintendo Wii have been warned. What needs is to see if the Xbox 360's successor nothing groundbreaking or record as its Kinect motion controller will be. Did you mean four years long for Microsoft is not you into something spectacular cooking?

Open networking Foundation pursues new standards - New York Times

The Group was called the Open Foundation of networking, hopes to standardize a set of technology pioneer at Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley and intended to make small and large programmable networks in the same way as individual computers are.

The amendments, if widely adopted, would have implications for telecommunications and enterprise data centers large networks, but also for small home networks. The advantages, proponents say, would be more flexible and secure networks that are less likely to suffer from congestion. One day, they say, networks might be cheaper to build and operate.

The new approach could allow for the establishment at the request "express lanes" for voice and data traffic is sensitive to both. Or he could let the big telecommunications companies, such as Verizon or AT & T, use the software to combine multiple optical fiber backbones temporarily for information particularly heavy loads and then it automatically separate when one hour of peak data.

For households, the new capabilities could let Internet service providers provide services to remote home control security or energy.

The organizers of the Foundation also said new technologies offer ways to improve the security of the computer and could potentially improve privacy in e-commerce and social networking markets. These markets are the uses the fastest growing network and computing resources.

While the new capabilities could be crucial for network engineers, consumers and business users the changes may not be more noticeable than the progress of the plumbing, heating and air conditioning. Everything that might better function, but most users cannot possibly step - or care - why or how.

The foundation of open networks include Broadcom, Brocade, Ciena, Cisco, Citrix, Dell, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, Facebook, Force10, Google, Hewlett-Packard, typewriters, Juniper, Marvell, Microsoft, NEC, Netgear, NTT, Riverbed Technology, Verizon, VMWare and Yahoo.

"This answers a question that the entire industry has had, and this is how you provide owners and operators of large networks with the flexibility of the control they want to build in a standardised manner," said Nick McKeown, Professor of electrical and computer engineering at Stanfordwhere his and colleagues at work is part of the technical foundations, called OpenFlow.

The effort is a departure from the traditional way, the works of the Internet. Designed by military and academic experts in the 1960s, the Internet was based on interconnected computers, send and receive data packets, paying little attention to the content and make a few distinctions among the different types of receptors of information and shippers.

Intelligence in the original Internet was supposed to reside in large part on the endpoints of the network - computers - while specialized routing computers were relatively dumb post offices of different size, mainly confined to the reading of addresses and the transfer of packets of data to the adjacent systems.

But these days, when the cloud computing means many information are stored and processed on computers on the network, there is a growing need for control systems smarter to orchestrate the behavior of thousands of routing machines. It will allow, for example, for managers of large networks to their network to give priority to certain types of data, perhaps to ensure the quality of the service or to add security to parts of a network of program.

Designers argue that, because OpenFlow should open hardware and software systems that control the flow of Internet packets of data, systems which have been closed and exclusive, it will produce a new cycle of innovation focused primarily on large computer systems known as cloud computers.

"It is a pragmatic solution," said David Farber, a computer scientist at Carnegie Mellon, who was one of the pioneers of the technology of data networking.

"The idea of mobile intelligence for network termination points was one of the original design of the Internet," said Mr. Farber. But he noted that as the advanced network to sophisticated advanced offer services through computers in centralized cloud, including the delivery of digital and video telephony, it became less possible to continue in relying on the design of decentralized network.

Mr. Farber noted that there were other research projects aimed at redesigning the Internet. For example, the National Science Foundation, support the initiative of OpenFlow, has funded the global environment for network Innovations, or GENI. Open flow seems to have generated support large industry, he said, but he has yet to prove itself on the market.

A number of companies of networking, including Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, and Juniper have already produced prototype systems that support the OpenFlow technology. In addition, at least a start-up in Silicon Valley, Nicira Networks, is currently testing the products of OpenFlow are supposed to enter the cloud computing market later this year.

"If you look really large companies such as Google and Amazon, they take really smart programmers and give them a problem such as research or the automation of storage and then turn the crank and occasional pops a large system", said Martin Casado, from Nicira Chief Technologist and a member of the research project at Stanford OpenFlow.

But Mr. Casado noted that, in the past, the part of the system that cannot be programmed was the network. "This customizes the network for the applications that are actually being implemented."
